Salon, I donate but still feel guilty

The moral dilemma for “I donate but still feel guilty” is that the woman has everything she works but she really does not need to, and because of that she help the ones that does not have possibilities and even thought she help them she still feels that is not enough.

I recommend that she still doing what she is already doing helping poor people and at the same time compare herself with the ones that are not doing nothing, so you will feel proud of your self because you are doing something that not everybody is doing and that make you a unique person.

This situation connects to the radio lap story, because the man was helping people with their money until he did not have any more and that happened because he felt that he did not did enough to help others.

Plastic Bag and Synthesis

  1. In the movie the bag says more ”I wish you had made me so that I could die” because the plastic doesn’t decompose meaning that does not matter how much you use it or don’t use it, the bag will not destroy, which means that the bag could never die and it will keep been alive for ever without no one using it.
  2. The plastic bag keep on saying that he is useless to the animal because the human only can find a use for the bag, but for the animals is useless, so when there is no human the plastic bag will not have a purpose.
  3. This movied reflect different idea from literature class like the concept of existentialism at the beginning when the bag was trying to look for its maker and also absurdism when at the when he wish that the bag could die it also connect to the play “waiting for Godot” because in waiting for Godot, pozzo wanted to get rid of lucky just like the woman in the movie got rid of the plastic.
  4. This connect to the chemistry class because in science we talked about how the ocean is full of plastic that can not decompose so it stay there, which is damage for the fish because they eat it. And we also talked about how would be helpful if the bags were not made out of plastic so it could discompose.
  5. In chemistry we learning the problem and how it affect humans like the plastic in the ocean and in English class the movie show us example of these problems and how humans cause it.

Wal-Mart

Wal- Mart is not good for New York City because it will bring problems to the city such as, a lot of people is going to lose their good Jobs with benefit because Wal- Mart push companies to go out of business, also because then the jobs that people are going to find will be in Wal-Mart, which means low wage and not benefit. So because people are going to get jobs in Wal-Mart that means that they are not going to have a lot of money in their packets so they are not going to spend. It also can in the community like for example if Wal-Mart move to the city and the small business go out and then Wal-Mart decide to move NYC will be destroy. Some evidence from the book that support what the movie shows are:

1.     In NYC are enough supermarkets and great retails, which means that we do not need a Wal-Mart.

2.     The unions are against to it because it will destroy them and put workers in bad jobs without benefits.

3.     They do not real care if they open a store in the city, which show that they just care about their business not the community.

4.     The low wages and benefits will leaves many workers in poverty.

5.     They don’t buy to America manufacture because it cost too much money and that bring United State Economy down.

1.      I was able to see a woman with a sad face, three kids; two of them were facing back.

2.      I felt sad because I feel like they do not have a place to live or to go.

3.      This persons are normal people like us because that they are in that situation does not means that you can be in their position, you could be there.

4.      I will feel bad if I was in that situation because I could not be able to support my kids; maybe I will try to find something to do so I can give what my children need.

5.      I think that the time period was during a natural disaster because if she has a lot of kids maybe before she had how to support them but she lost everything so she does not have a house.

6.      I think they are in their destroy house because I see a tree but in the bad I see like a wall.

7.      Their cloth is old which means they are poor, her face show that she had worked a lot in the pass. I think they are immigrants because she has a lot of kids.

8.      One day I came from school and I turn on the TV, I saw that in Nipomo, California a natural disaster occurred. They were showing how people were loosing their houses. But what most  impress me was a woman sitting in the dirt of her house with her 7 kids without know what she will do.

Sociological Imagination Project, Part 2: Processing Information

  1. Can Money Buy Safety?

By CLIFFORD KRAUSS,

Published: November 12, 1993

This article talks about how the senate spend a lot of money for the police, prisons and everything related with safety. This article affected my life because some of my family had been living in this country for a long time and they where victim of some kind of crime and even though the government is putting a lot of money for that, it may be not enough.

2. Venezuelan Voters Reject Two Entrenched Parties

This event affect my life in a way that the year when i was born, in my country elections were occurring so Caldera, was President during the early 1970’s, returned to be the president, the new say that he won because people were against the other parties, so this affect my life because the community where i was growing was kind of divided which make them not to fight for the country instead fight for themselves, which made that today we have a president that is not helping our country, which also is the reason why i came to this country

3. Sociological imagination is what allows an individuals to see the relationship between events in their personal lives and events in their society, this project is connect to sociological immagination because we are looking to event in our history and connected to our on life and how it affected in what we are today, and our society too.

Homework Semester 2

People act differently depending in the environment that they grew up. Sociology is a social science, which study the way people behave and interact with each other. Social sciences are divided into specialized fields based on what they focus on, for example Anthropology is divided into cultural and physical anthropology (1).

As social science has different fields there is another parallel set of science that is natural science, which explain and predict the events in our natural environment. Natural science is also divided into area such as biology, geology, chemistry and this areas specialized in different things for example biology is divided into botany and zoology(1). Since there is two type of science, there are differences that separate them. The difference between social science and natural science is that social science study the human relationship and the social world for example they examine how people interact through Facebook. (2) and natural science attempt to look at world nature for example plants, animals (2).

Although History, Political science , Psychology, sociology are social science they had difference between then. The difference between sociology and the others social science is that sociology study the human behavior as a whole in the different environment and the other social science examine different parts of that environment is like more specific. For example in a theme like juvenile delinquency a sociologist will approach this topic by study the power and structure of the gang, the members attitudes as a whole (3), but a psychologist will investigate the trait of the adolescents who enter to the gang, which is kind of individual and specific(3).

The world is too big for just one group of the study. So everything that happens in our environment is studied by a different group, depending on what is the incident. If it is something related to nature in the world, professions that study it are biology, geology, chemistry, those are called natural science and everything that has to do with human impact are study it by psychologist, economist, anthropologist and sociologist.

Radiolab show:

In a well developed paragraph that has at least three different pieces of evidence from the show, answer the following question: Is helping others selfish or selfless?

In my opinion, help others can be selfish. Some people helps others not because they know that person but because they think what would happen if that occur to me or to a member of my family. For example the second case of the radio show, Wiliam’s case he help the three boy that were inside of the car on fire, he did save him but when they ask him why he did it, he said that he would like that if his daughter is in the same situation someone will do the same thing that he did.Another example is the third case, Wesley’s case he help somebody that was on the roads of the train, while he leave alone his daughter, when they ask him why he did it, he said that he felt that he had to do it, and that his daughter give him the desire to do it.
